Thing #1

After watching the presentation on 7-1/2 habits, I found myself pondering the quote at the end by Confucius; "even a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".  This is my first ever blog posting so it is in fact a first step! We are required to reflect on the 7-1/2 habits by determining which of these will be the easiest and which will be the hardest to implement. I will begin with the hardest since I would like to end the post on a happy note. The hardest habit will be #6; the use of technology to my advantage. I am a non traditional student who has limited computer experience. In my three semesters at Austin Peay, I have been exposed to quite a bit of computer time. I feel that I can do this and it will get easier. I step out of my comfort zone each time I attempt a new assignment like this. I do like the feeling of accomplishment that comes at the end of a assignment. Technology offers a almost limitless amount of resources as a current student and as a future teacher. The easy habit for me is #7; to teach and mentor others. This is the true reason I decided to go back to school and become a teacher. I have a very nurturing quality to my nature. I have never enjoyed seing others struggle or suffer. Once I learn a process that is beneficial, I will happily pass it along to others. I find great enjoyment in seeing others realize their own potential and often then, they to in turn pass it along. I look forward to what this course and semester will expose me to, to push me further along in the right directon.

  1. You're awesome James! You've come very far with the new technology even since the beginning of last semester :) Remember that I am always here if you need help! #7 is the easiest step for me also.

  2. I completely agree that the technology will be the hardest part for me too. Stuff like this is completely out of my comfort zone too. I think most of us non traditional students have trouble with technology. I have tried commenting on the blogs many times and havent been successful (hopefully I can make this work since I am now on my old trustworthy computer at home haha) and You know about the camera fiasco. Hopefully we will both come out of this course slightly more tech savy :)
